New Shama Joshanda Concentrate is a herbal remedy that is also known as Matbookh or Tabeekh, which both mean “baked.” Many roots, barks, stems, flowers, etc. are boiled for a set amount of time in order to extract their active ingredients. Typically, 1 teaspoon of the dry herb is mixed with 1 cup of water. Always create decoctions in glass, porcelain, or stainless steel containers. A decoction can be prepared using a coffee percolator. If not, boil the substance for the specified amount of time. Add honey or other flavorings after allowing to cool, if desired.
The ideal medication-to-water ratio is 1:6 or 1:8. As soon as the water is down to half or a third, it should be boiled as directed. Joshanda has a long history of use as a home treatment for sore throats, catarrh, and the common cold. A Persian phrase called Joshanda is derived from the words Joshanidan (boiling) and Andah (prepared by). Thus, one that is “prepared by boiling” is what Joshanda means in its literal sense. This mixture is made similarly to a herbal decoction.
